Salaam-e-ishq is almost four hours long...why aren't Bollywood filams shorter in today's jaldi-fix-age?

IT's a filam that's amost four hoyr long.when salaam-e-ishq was released last week, almost all the reviews centred around its inordinate length.Director Nikhil Advani jastified it,saying, It has six different tracks which merge intoone story.The length is just right.I couldn't have made it shorter...Not once does it get lengthargic.A shorter filam wouldn't work...conversely a good filam that holds the viewer's interest with a running time of even four hours might still work."

Not so , says Minnalae directro gautam Menon, who ensures his filams stay within a two -and -half hour time-frame.I'm very consciouse of length.In india, we don't edit scripts when we write them-filammakers just shoot, while Hollywood has a script-aditing process which times every scene.

He's surprised at Nikhil Advani's justficaton of the length."People can't sit in a theatre for that long.A director must be a butcher-let go of what he considers beautiful scenes if they aren't essential to the filam."
